You can contribute to the health of Oregon's watersheds by making a gift directly to the Master Watershed Steward program (MWS) through the OSU Foundation. Your investment will help ensure that the MWS program will continue to provide information and assistance that changes lives and improves natural resources. Our goal is to bring about increased understanding and knowledge of watershed science and community leadership throughout Oregon. Your donation can help make this a reality.

There are three ways to give to the Master Watershed Steward program.

• Mail your contribution form and check or money order, payable to "OSU Foundation", to the following address:

Why give?

The Master Watershed Steward (MWS) program has served as Oregon's watershed education provider since 1995. The program has reached more than 1,000 people who have completed more than 14,400 hours of work on watershed projects throughout Oregon. Through our program these individuals have received research-based, comprehensive, watershed stewardship education unequaled anywhere in the Pacific Northwest.

MWS programs promote increased understanding of watershed science and leadership education, and an improved ability to apply this within communities.

The objectives of each local program are:

    1. Provide comprehensive watershed education, giving people new or additional knowledge, awareness and skills that they can apply within their community or work setting.
    2. Provide education on social science and leadership, resulting in more effective projects and improved social interaction and decision-making among landowners (both urban and rural), agency staff, and citizens.

MWS program topics are:

  • Watershed and Stream Processes
  • Stream Assessment and Restoration
  • Soils, Erosion, and Conservation
  • Salmonid Biology
  • Working Together to Create Successful Groups
  • Riparian Area Functions and Management
  • Wetland/Estuary Evaluation and Enhancement
  • Water Quality Monitoring

OSU's Watershed Extension also offers education programs that can be tailored to community requests.

We offer programs for all Oregonians who are interested in watershed conservation and management: Landowners, homeowners, urban planners, teachers, foresters, hobby farmers, large agricultural producers, interested citizens, nursery growers, fishers, pesticide applicators, homebuilders and buyers, watershed council members, students, and natural resource managers.

Our mission is to increase the capacity of Oregon watershed groups and communities for conserving, improving, protecting, and sustaining watershed functions and values. Increasing capacity is achieved through research-based education, skill-building projects, and new partnerships among residents, local organizations, businesses, agencies, and educational institutions.

Your donation will help ensure that the MWS program continues to provide vital education and project assistance to Oregon communities statewide.

Donations are made via the non-profit OSU Foundation, and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
